Summer 2010

I have spent much time this summer kayaking. Every wednesday night throughout the summer and several trips to beautiful rivers and lakes, including the Apostle Islands and the BWCA. I've found much inspiration from these paddles and look forward to some serious painting this fall. Feel blessed to have spent so much time with my kids and grandkids this summer, it was great being all together in one place!

I believe

That this edge where our next step is off the precipice and into uncertainty is fertile ground for enlightenment.

Changes

Pondering change. Spring and change are in the air. Go outside...close the door.

Driving

I realized this morning amidst some physical and mental fog and mist, I will keep doing whatever it takes. I seem to be in the backseat with a driver who knows the way. (Or thinks she does) I'll just let her drive.

Away

"AWAY". Title to the new piece on the easel. A place, a frame of mind. A journey.

Film event

"Two Films Two Artists"

A film event that was shown in my gallery/studio. I was pleased with the turnout given the weather had turned to freezing rain and sleet and the roads were tricky.

"Rising" a 30 minute documentary of moi was shown first, then a 15 minute unfinished version of "Artist in the Margin", a film about Pierre Prevost, a french sculptor.

Always hard to watch yourself for 30 minutes. Not believing or wanting to believe that it is really me carrying on and looking and sounding so stupid. Couldn't I have thought of something more profound to say? Couldn't I have been the other artist instead?
He didn't say anything. But then Emily didn't ask him. But then he doesn't speak english. The film was good though, inspiring to watch and all of the audience wanted to jump on a plane and go to his humble cottage in the country, play with his kittens, tinker in the junk pile, drink the wine and be his friend.

Emily's insights and compassion to and for artists is obvious in these two films. She will go on to do great things.

A walk in the woods

Was skiing in the woods and enjoying the sound of the pines whispering in the brisk wind. It was cold and windy with a wind chill factor. I was totally reveling in the sights, sounds, smells and feeling of being tucked in the woods. I stopped on purpose to listen closely to the wind as it whipped around and whistled loudly above the tree tops. I stood still and let the wind blow all around me, making my cheeks tingle. I heard a loud crack before hearing a tree slowing falling behind me, getting tangled and slowed on it's way to the ground by other trees in the way. It was a memorable sound and a good outing.
